Ennui’s Flower

In a restless state of rest, we often lie, on Boredom’s comfy bed,
Thinking of all we can accomplish, and accomplishing nothing instead!

In our minds we muse over theories, of how exciting our lives would be,
If we ventured beyond the bedclothes, escaping the thug of its gravity.
We imagine fantastical futures, while we lie in the cradle of dreams.
Dreams that are cradled, curdle, and into sourness, settles, it seems.

Is Boredom unbeatable? Can we loosen Lethargy’s grip?
I believe it is possible if Ennui’s flower, at the bud, we nip!
We mustn’t wait for it to blossom, or offer it rain or sun
By idling away our time in the pursuit of pleasurable fun.
We nip Ennui’s flower, when meaning we infuse
Into our daily activities, and to act on our dreams, we choose.

Ennui’s flower, may from afar, appear attractive and divine.
But only from afar it appears as so, please trust these words of mine.
The flower will most certainly become an object of reproach,
If drawn by its attractive petals you make your perilous approach.
For once you arrive at Ennui’s plantation, and the flower is now in sight,
You’ll find it doesn’t live up to expectation, you’ll see it in a new light!

It is within our power, to leave Ennui’s flowers behind,
Venture out of Ennui’s plantation and a meadow of meaning find!
