A Sonnet on Walkers

A Line Made by Walking – Richard Long (Photographed in 1967)

If you’re going to live, leave a legacy. Make a mark on the world that can’t be erased.

Maya Angelou, American Memoirist and Poet Extraordinaire

. . .

Of strolls across life’s meandering way,

Walkers are we, with much to say.

Untrodden is the path until trampled underfoot,

Our walking gives way to the approaching boot.

We walk till feet, by age are retired,

By our strides other walkers are inspired.

Our path may be trodden on by alien shoe,

If it leads to glorious ‘Great Walkers Pew’.

Thus, dear walker, take steps in your stride,

Acknowledge that misstepping is your greater guide.

A trailblazer you are with torch in hand,

To take illumined steps toward what’s planned.

Until the end of your vivacious stroll,

Walk dear walker, for walking’s your role!
